December 21st – Silent Night

Silent Night
by: Joseph Mohr

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child.
Holy infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight;
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love’s pure light;
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.

As Christmas nears it is really easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Last minute gifts need to be purchased, the house needs to be ready for the family coming into town, and Christmas parties need to be attended. But in all the chaos just remember that “silent night, holy night” is what started all of this.

This poem/song is so powerful that it even prompted a Christmas Truce between two opposing armies during WWI. Here’s the story. Enjoy! 🙂
